Meet two people.
An attorney at law.
And a clerk whose job it was to hand-copy the Law.
Both had encounters with Jesus.
The attorney asked, “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
The clerk asked, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”
The attorney desired to test Jesus.
The clerk desired to hear truth.
The attorney rattled off the answer.
The clerk affirmed Jesus’ answer.
The attorney spoke correctly.
The clerk spoke wisely.
See, the attorney knew the Word, but hoped to get around it.
The clerk saw that Jesus knew the Word and there was no getting around it.
The attorney sought to justify himself.
The clerk drew closer to the kingdom of God.
