I have set a goal which cannot be reached if I live to be 900.
Yet, I aim to reach this goal within my lifetime.
My lifetime.
Be it 80 years, 50, or 30.
My goal, though impossible, is worth every moment of striving.
And because it cannot be reached, it is the greatest goal of all.
My goal is to know the Bible.
All of it.
All 66 books, 1,189 chapters, and 31,000-some-odd verses.
To hold it not as a familiar acquaintance, but as a cherished friend.
To fill my moments with it. And my thoughts. And my home.
To spend significant time dwelling on every passage. To ponder every word.
To know it thoroughly. Deeply. And fully.
I realize it can’t be done. But I plan to die trying.
Why?
Because in the Word, God is revealed. And I want to know my God.
Because when I urgently search the Scriptures, I am compelled to search them all the more.
Because a renewed mind is the key to a transformed life.
Because most other things aren’t worth the time and effort. But this one is.
And so I aim to reach an impossible goal in the unknown span of a lifetime.
How?
The only way I can – one day at a time.
Today, I can spend an hour on one passage.
Tomorrow, I’ll talk through a section with a friend.
The next day, I might devote a length of time to just a few verses.
Because, though I’m in a race with time, deliberation is golden.
In a few weeks, I’ll have a grasp on a book or two. And the big picture will come into focus.
And then I’ll move on to another book. And another.
In a few years, I’ll be well on my way.
Yet it will feel like I have miles to go in this never-ending adventure of mine.
And if I lived to be 900, I’d feel quite the same.
But for now, I have today.
And today, I’m going to reach with all my might for a goal that’s impossible.
. . . as though it’s not.

Definitely a goal worth the time and effort. I love what you said about a renewed mind leads to a transformed life. As God continues to renew our mind as we seek Him daily, the transformation is far beyond what we can imagine.God has left us His written word to reveal to Himself to us. each day a new lesson is learned and experience is earned via life. The bible teaches lessons as well and many that I have had the opportunity to learn. I love the goal that you have created for your self. All things are possible with our Lord Jesus Christ. Good Luck

I love your goal and even though none of us will ever be to the point where we really fully know ALL things there is to know about the Bible – we can sure make top priority and immerse ourselves in it… we are better and richer for it when we devote ourselves to Him and His Word! Such a noble and inspirational goal. We must have linked up at the same time this morning – we are neighbors at several linkups… #CoffeeConversations & #DanceWithJesus just to name a few!

That is a worthwhile goal indeed. I still have to make it all the way through all the books of the bible. Some of the OT books are difficult to read and I tend to go back to the gospels frequently. Good luck!

I know the feeling! It’s hard to stay in the OT! But I’m finding more and more ways to make it lots of fun and something I keep running back to!

Definitely a worthy goal! I’ve been doing the #goodmorninggirls Bible study and we’re in Deuteronomy-it’s a tough book to get through, but there are things we can learn from it!

I think the key to keeping our study of scripture fresh is exactly as you described… to vary the way we read and study so that it stays fresh. If you haven’t read “Women of the Word” by Jen Wilkin, you must get a copy immediately. It will help you with your goal like nothing else! I love that book! Seriously, get it. Read it. And start knowing the scripture!!
