Colossians 3:16 is another one of those great encouragements to the church to allow the Word to abound in them. One method Paul mentions is singing.
Music has power. It sets the mood. Causes angst or calm. Adds the final touch to a ceremony or a celebration.
Music does something nothing else does. It etches itself forever on your mind.
When a friend introduced to me the unique genre of Scripture songs (that is, word-for-word Scripture set to music), I had no idea where something so simple could lead.
I soon discovered that, merely by listening to Scripture songs in my car every day, I had Scripture on my mind continually. That moment when you have a song stuck in your head, and you’re glad you can’t get it out.
“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable…
If there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Phil 4:8
I want to set my mind on things above (Col 3:2), and to rejoice, pray, and give thanks with my every breath (1 Thess 5:16-18). What a thrill to discover that music is a fun way to accomplish it.
Not to mention, it’s an automatic memory device. Take that, Psalm 119:11.
And so, in this blog, I hope to pass along my Scripture song discoveries.
The power of the Word and the power of music put together. It’s a pretty powerful thing.

I’m aware of this type of music, kind of, but I haven’t listened to a whole ton of it, I don’t think. Where do you find it?

Sure, word-for-word Scripture songs can seem tricky to find at first. It takes a little digging. But there’s some really great stuff out there! I’ll post some ideas and links in the coming days. Stay tuned!
