Mindlessness is one of the great enemies of the Christian.

But surely you’ve never been a victim.

I’m talking about listening to the preacher and then fumbling over yourself when someone asks you what the sermon was about.

I’m talking about singing during worship, and with gusto, no doubt, and then immediately becoming incapable of remembering anything about the songs you just sang.

I’m talking about jumping on the latest bandwagon because, “Everybody I respect takes that position, so it must be right.”

I’m talking about memorizing large chunks of Scripture. But you couldn’t begin to explain them.

I’m talking about reading an entire chapter of the Bible. If those words had any power, you wouldn’t know it. They didn’t make it past your eyeballs.

What is this? This is mindlessness. And it’s destroying our ability to know and worship our God.

The mindless Christian looks good, perhaps. So does a vocalist whose performance is dubbed. And a guy in a football uniform who knows not a thing about football. An appearance of wisdom and strength, perhaps. But an appearance only.

Rather, consider what it would be like to know the God you sing about. To hear and understand. Truths that penetrate deep inside your soul and change your being. Think about the God of the universe speaking to you. And you recognize it. You know what he’s saying. And it’s life-giving. You believe in the Bible. And you know what it says.

And then you can sing to your God and mean it. You can resonate with the preacher, and the worship leader, and all of creation. And you get it.

This is when “the Christian life” becomes the Christian life. Because it’s alive.

I urge you. Remove the Satanic plug that clogs the path from your ears to your mind, and just think.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Matt 22:37

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing, you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Rom 12:2

    24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

    And now back to us, if we don’t want to end up like them, we need to be doers of the Word!

    James 1:22
    But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

    So as you said, “Remove the Satanic plug that clogs the path from your ears to your mind, and just think.”
