Strange Prayers of Thanksgiving

Thank you, Lord, for sickness and disease.
For these trials give me compassion for the hurting.

Thank you, Lord, for interruptions.
For these are indeed surprise gifts.

Thank you, Lord, for grief and loss.
For I know what it means to be comforted and filled.

Thank you, Lord, for the wintry cold.
For it compels me to remember the homeless.

Thank you, Lord, for physical pain.
For by it my knowledge of your sustaining grace is deeper.

Thank you, Lord, for the lost souls around me.
For I have the saving Truth they need.

Thank you, Lord, for singleness.
For I am acutely aware of your presence and care.

Thank you, Lord, for chaos and confusion.
For these cause your Word to shine more brightly.

Thank you, Lord, for weakness.
For in it I find your strength.

Thank you, Lord, for people who are hard to love.
For such relationships hold much opportunity.

Thank you, Lord, for tears.
For this means I feel and desire and love.

Thank you, Lord, that I have financial need.
For it causes me to appreciate what I have.

Thank you, Lord, for the mundane things of life.
For you are in them all.

Thank you, Lord, for my enemies.
For I can now fully experience the power to love.

Thank you, Lord, for changing my plans.
For you know what is best.

Thank you, Lord, for suffering.
For in my darkest moments, I have found you to be all I need.

In every circumstance, may my heart be filled with thankfulness.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
